Hospital-based speech pathologists navigate these issues daily, but with rising rates of complex disability, community speech pathologists are increasingly being asked to offer support to children with dysphagia outside of hospitals, and often without the professional networks that hospital-based clinicians rely on. Many professional development courses in the feeding world focus on more prevalent feeding issues like restricted diets and navigating family mealtimes, which can mean speech pathologists are at a loss for what to do when a child with dysphagia presents in their clinic.
